Paul Sauer meets David Kearns in Louisville Branch 1975 |
David T. Kearns, the beloved and inspirational Chief Executive Officer of Xerox during the 1980s, died early this morning at a Hospice near his winter home in Florida. He was 80 years old. Kearns who was from Rochester and graduated from the University of Rochester was the company's leader from 1982 until 1991. David Kearns led Xerox during a turbulent time when foreign competition made many wonder if the company would survive but he led the company with optimism and encouraged hard work. In a statement, CEO Ursula M. Burns, said of her predecessor: “I know I speak for the entire Xerox family, past and present, when I say that there is a gaping hole in our hearts today. In a time of great need for Xerox, David shouldered the mantle of leadership and rallied Xerox people to overcome a fierce competitive challenge and ensure the company’s future. All Xerox people who followed are in his debt.” More information about David and his contributions to our company, as well as his service to the United States government, for more information about Mr. Kearns CLICK HERE .
