Bob King

Robert (Bob) King
Buckner, KY

Bob worked in Evansville then Lexington and Finally Louisville when with Xerox

"What a shock to hear from Jim and David Doll.  I thought the email was “spam” at first, but it turned out to be a joyful reunion".

"Before I start this “attempt’ to catch you up on my life after Xerox, I must say, my short stay at Xerox had a huge impact on my professional life!  I’ve been through many sales training programs but Xerox taught me how to sell.  I never worried about having a job for the rest of my life, I knew I could carry a bag for anyone!  I fondly recall when we would break up in groups for the day and go cold calling and return to the office to see who had the most signed contracts".
OK, here goes;  What an old man can recall:

"I believe I started first in the Lexington office (possibly Evansville)!  But, in both branches, I met many fine people, but especially David Doll.  David and I had many good times together, (some we may share one day but others should be left unspoken)!  What a friend that I will always remember"!

"In Evansville, Sugar Bear Morris took me under his wing and taught me all of the tricks that are “not taught at sales school”, tricks that enabled me to better do a good job!  Sugar Bear, “My Man”!

"After Xerox I bumped around for a while and ended up back in Evansville, working for Johnson and Johnson.  Married Lois Drake and in 1980 we had our first child.  That division closed and I went to Saginaw, Michigan and our second child was born in 1981".

"Too cold for me so the next year I came back to Louisville and started working for A.T. & T.  Guess what?  My first manager at A.T. & T. was Valerie Lloyd who is married to Ed Lloyd (a Xerox and Kodak sales representative).  In fact the woman I would later marry, (after Lois died), also worked for Valerie!  Its a small world, huh"!

"At AT & T I found a home.  I sold to the small business, construction sector, statewide.  Divestiture came along and I stayed with South Central Bell’s network are,  I then moved to the major accounts banking sector, statewide and sold the first copper based high speed networks in the state and later the first fiber based networks!

I was promoted to small business sales manager in Louisville.  South Central became BellSouth.  I then went to work on the GM’s staff until the GM moved to Nashville and I continued in management in the collection center at Armory Place in Louisville.

Did that until 2000 whn BellSouth became Cingular wireless.  In 2000, after years of turning down promotions that required me to move, I was offered Regional Vice President over the west coast customer operations.  I would have 3000 employees with call centers in California and Louisiana.  We had just put my son in Centre College and my daughter was in Pitt, so I agreed and said “yes”!

I stayed in California until 2005 when it was discovered that I had Sino nasal undifferentiated carcinoma (SNUC), a rare cancer of the nasal cavity and/or paranasal sinuses.  Odds of survival were low but, God let me live.  After 9 months of surgery, chemo, radiation, I returned to work!

All of a sudden, work wasn’t important so I retired in 2005 and returned to Kentucky.  Guess what Kincer......I live in Buckner, KY!

When i returned to Kentucky, we learned the cancer had moved to my brain.  After more setbacks and surgeries, I’m still here!

I got to see my kids well entrenched in their careers, daughter is a corporate attorney at EQT Gas in Pittsburgh and my son is a Financial Advisor at Northwestern Mutual for the past 16 years.  Was able to spend time with my Dad, who passed at 84 and my Mom is still here at 89!

Administration

I received an email from Bob Gilbert and this was posted on Facebook today 2/13/2023 by Glenns Baugh's daughter, Jennifer:

It is one of the most heartbreaking posts I've ever written, but we had to say goodbye to Dad on Saturday, February 11, 2023. I'm sure in the days ahead I'll spend time poring over many of the pictures that captured some of the happiest memories from his 77 years of life. High school basketball, college fraternity, my childhood, the many happy memories spent with his mom and dad and our family around a dinner table or an ice cream churn on a hot summer day. Years spent enjoying time with lifelong friends, working with great folks, and over a decade of life spent with his lovely wife, Gloria as they shared interests and an abiding love and companionship. Thank you to all who have shared this adventure with him. He was quick with a smile and a laugh, blessed with a great sense of humor, and filled with a kind and generous spirit toward those he loved. He modeled thoughtful intelligence, grace and forgiveness, optimism, and yes... also a tenacity and willfulness that would make a mule look compliant. A beloved husband, father, step-father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and Godfather. A true and loyal friend to many. So truly grateful for a life that was lived in such a way that its absence will be felt well after this initial grieving lessens. He's had so many good friends and cherished family go ahead of him, and I know they're celebrating a reunion even now. Here's to the many hugs, laughs, conversations, great meals, fantastic music, road trips, fish fries.... Miss you forever, Dad!

I received the following message from Lois Schuetz at 4:30 pm 1/29/2023

"Gary pasted away last night of complications from cancer.  The medical team tried everything.  Last March he had the last chemo treatment. He fell and broke his arm.  That was the beginning . The Dr’s said it would not heal properly.  He passed away last night at 2:11. We are not having any service."     Lois

Dick Johnsen (1943 - 2016)

Dick Johnsen 2010

Dick Johnsen (Deceased)
Louisville, KY
Birthday October 6

Dick Johnsen 1974
Obituary:
Richard K. Johnsen, 73, of Louisville passed away Sunday August 26, 2016 at his home with the love of his life, wife Suzie and beloved Labrador Retriever, Kali, by his side, after a long, valiant battle with multiple myeloma. A graduate of Colorado State University, Dick worked for Xerox Corp, NTS Development Company (Louisville) and subsequently formed his own real estate development company, Olympia Homes.
Dick is survived by his loving and devoted wife; Suzie Nicholas Johnsen, sons; Brent, Jeffrey, Jonas, and grandson; Cody, all whom live in Colorado. He is also survived by brother-in-law; N.J. Nicholas, Jr. of New York City and Nantucket, Peter M. Nicholas of Boston and Boca Grande and Kenneth R. Monroe or Fort Lauderdale.
An avid fisherman and hunter, Dick and many of his close friends would scout fishing holes throughout the country up into Cree Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada, where he enjoyed many memorable trips, especially at the Cree Lake Lodge. Another place dear to Dick’s heart was Howard South Dakota where he and his lifelong friend, Bill Hinton rented a house for the past fifteen years, inviting many friends and their dogs to join them for pheasant hunting several times every fall. Those were some of the best days of Dick’s life, trips he so enjoyed with his beloved hunting dogs, family and dear friends.
The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. and Mrs. Matthew Jung and Dr. Geetha Joseph for their care of Dick as well as the many friends and neighbors who encouraged and supported us unconditionally.
While at NTS, Dick was deeply involved in the Make-A -Wish Foundation for many years.  Anyone wishing to honor Dick with a donation please send to The Make-A-Wish Foundation 1230 Liberty Bank Lane, Louisville, KY. 40222
________________
Dick Johnsen joined Xerox in the mid 60's in the Denver Branch, and was transferred immediately to Cheyenne, Wyoming where he sold the Xerox 914, the Xerox 813 as well as the Haloid G46 and G30 photocopy machines, which were used by most counties in America to create legal document copies (ie: photocopies).   The old Haloid Photocopy Machines consisted of a camera and all the elements of making a photograph type of copy. They were about 5-6 feet high and about 15 feet long.

"Many towns in my sales territory had not been opened up for  Xerox, so I sold enough units to justify hiring a Xerox serviceman, usually a TV repairman to work on the machines I placed.    That was in Western Nebraska, Northern Colorado, and Wyoming, a very large territory which many times required us to take a small airplane to call on accounts, very exciting to develop a geographic area for Xerox".

Dik Johnsen 1979
After developing the area, Xerox transferred  Dick back to Denver and later in the early 70's promoted him to the Louisville branch as sales manager.  In Louisville, he worked for Marc Eisner and later Jack Davis.  Dick resigned Xerox to take a job with NTS Development Company in Louisville, as President of residential properties and stayed with NTS for about 8 years.

After NTS, he developed the Louisville area for the Zaring Company, a Cincinnati based residential construction company and did that until founding, Olympia Homes, a property development company, based in Louisville.  "We developed property throughout Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee until retiring, with some health issues, a few years ago".

"I enjoy hunting and fishing as much as I can.  My wife Suzie and 4 hunting dogs, all still live in Louisville".

Betty (Beck) Yoakum. (Deceased 9/20/2022)

9/20/22. FROM Laura Langdon Hood:  I’m sorry to tell you Betty Beck Yoakum passed away early this morning.  She had been declining over the past 7 years with

her health, memory loss and finally having difficulty speaking.  Her arrangements

will be made tomorrow and I’ll let you know.

Betty Beck Yoakum
Louisville, KY

I was hired as an Administrative Assistant in 1978 and worked for many managers.  To name a few, Paul Perconti, Dean Richards, Tom Stuart, Bill Norvell, Rich Leake, Jack Colley, Jim Wallace, Shelley Rodriguez, and Lisa Perkins.  We worked hard, but we had a lot of fun also in the good old days.

I retired from Xerox in 2004 after 25 years when the Xerox office downsized from one whole floor on the first floor to basically one room on the 3rd floor and the sales reps started working from their homes.

I have two children, a boy and a girl, and they each have a
boy and a girl.  My son, Randy Beck, has been working with Xerox in the Service Department since 1985.

It took a few years for me to learn how to slow down after I retired, but I think I’ve got the hang of it now.  After my divorce in 1984 having been married for 25 years, I met Ralph Yoakum and we dated for 17 years and we got married in 2001.  He works at home and we really enjoy having time for leisurely breakfasts while reading the whole newspaper (that was something I never had time for when I worked).

I play as much singles tennis as possible, sometimes with my son and college-age grandchildren.  I cook as little as possible.  I enjoy not having to be somewhere at a certain time every day.  I stay busy taking care of my roses and working on projects I never had time to do when I worked.

Jack Colley (Deceased)

 Jack Colley, III

Age 69, passed away early Friday morning, August 5, 2016. He was born in Ashland, Kentucky on December 16, 1946 to his parents, Clifford and Virginia Colley.

Jack was a graduate of Union College and the University of Louisville's Institute of Community Development. He was a teacher in the Jefferson County Public School System for several years and then became a sales representative with the Xerox Corporation. With steady advancement, Jack retired in 2003 as a Regional Manager in the Agent Program after 25 years of service. After retirement Jack joined Semonin as a realtor and remained active until recently.

It was at Union College that Jack met and later married his wife of 44 years, Elaine. His love and respect for and devotion to her was matched only by her love for and devotion to him.

Jack's innate ability to make others feel comfortable, supported and appreciated was one of his endearing qualities. Jack exercised a unique ability to use humor to put people at ease and on occasion to call them to task. Those who knew Jack appreciated his open, honest, genuine personality and enjoyed and respected his calm yet determined approach to any challenge he confronted. As people grew to truly know him their appreciation for the depth of his intelligence, his lust for learning, the diversity of his interests and his compassion for others also grew.

Jack's parents, Clifford and Virginia, and his sister, Mary Jane, predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, his brothers, Dan Wells (Terri) and Mike Colley (Connie), his sister, Marsha Carter and his faithful companion, Tatu.

Celebration of Life will be 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 PM until time of service.

His family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Norton Cancer Institute and the Norton Brownsboro Hospital for their professional and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Ky. Humane Society Main Campus, Kosair Children's Hospital, Hosparus-Hospice of Louisville or a charity of choice.

John Robison

8/19/20 pm - I am sorry to inform you that John Robison passed away late last night (8/18/20) of a heart attack.  He and Donna were in Nashville (her cancer treatment) and he woke her up at about 11:00pm and told her that he was having a heart attack, he called 911 before awakening her.  He passed on the way to the hospital.  As I receive more details, I will email you and post what I have on The Xerox914club

8/20/20 - 8:30am - From Bob Gilbert - I talked to Brad Robison last night and he said his dad was going to be cremated and they have not decided on any plans for a service.  Such a tragic loss for the Roadrunner community.  John was a personal friend as well as a long time business associate.  He will be greatly missed.

8/20/20 - 8:30am - I spoke with Donna this morning and she also said John will be cremated and she said the arrangements are still being discussed by the family.

8/22/20 - We are all saddened by the loss of John Robison, he was such an outstanding person.  He was someone special and different to each of us, he was inspiring, a friend, manager, leader, teacher, mentor, or simply someone to share and talk with, John was a good listener!
John just recently learned of a heart problem and was told he needed bypass surgery, he had talked with Paul about it and was trying to decide whether to and when!  John was a "donor" and he was cremated in Nashville, the ashes were sent back to Louisville.  Donna told me they will decide about a memorial of some kind in the future.  She was naturally having a difficult time but family support is good and strong.

Prior to Xerox my work experience was with Standard Oil for 6 years. I joined Xerox in 1966 as a salesman in Indianapolis and in 1969, was promoted to sales manager and Sales Planning Manager in Milwaukee, then to Area Manager in 1973 when I moved to Evansville and became a “Roadrunner” for the next 10 years.  In 1983 I became the Agent Operations Manager for the Ohio and Kentucky District, which grew, and in 1987 became the Region Manager for the Dealer Channel covering 13 States.  I retired from Xerox in 1993 after 27 great years!

In 1992, my son Brad, wife Donna and I founded “XBE” Xerographic Business Equipment located in Indianapolis and Lafayette, Indiana as well as Louisville, Kentucky.  In 2000 we sold Indianapolis and Lafayette to focus and grow the Louisville operation located at 2119 Frankfort Avenue and became a Sharp Electronics Dealer and Xerox Wide Format Dealer. In a 2006 we purchased our competitor “Electric Blueprint & Supply”, a well known local company established in 1916, (thus our current name XBE/Electric Blueprint and Supply), the exclusive Xerox Wide Format (Engineering Equipment) in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

Jim Smith (Deceased)

Jim Smith (Deceased)

Louisville, KY

Jim Smith grew up in Hazard, Kentucky and went to Western Kentucky University on a basketball scholarship.
Jim joined Xerox in 1972, he joined the Louisville Branch as a sales representative and became a very successful sales representative winning many Par Club trips and awards.  Jim carried his determination to win from the basketball court to the Xerox sales arena, he was a powerful competitor!   Jim had the stature, presence, attitude and name recognition to control every sales call, like he controlled the basketball court!  When Jim walked into a room, everyone knew he had arrived!  Xerox recognized his sales skills and his ability to get along with others and assigned him to the much sought after assignment of teaching others at the Xerox training center in Leesburg! Later Jim became a sales manager in Louisville managing a team of sales representatives.  After a successful sales management career, Jim was named to branch supply manager until he retired in 2002.  After Xerox, Jim became a teacher in the Shelby County School system until retirement in 2010. Jim has 6 children and 14 grandchildren.

In October 2012 Jim had a serious stroke which paralyzed his right side and he lost control of his right arm and leg, however, his speech was affected very little and the last we heard, he is progressing very well and regaining use of his right leg.

Jim was always in a good mood, with a smile on his face, a good friend and everyone he met liked and respected Jim Smith!
