Jack Colley (1946 - 2016)

Jack Strother Colley III (Deceased)

Jack passed away early Friday morning, August 5, 2016. He was 69 years old, born in Ashland, Kentucky on December 16, 1946 to Clifford and Virginia Colley.

Jack was a graduate of Union College and the University of Louisville's Institute of Community Development and for the Jefferson County Public Schools before becoming  a sales representative with Xerox and Regional Manager of the Xerox Agent Program.  He retired in 2003 after 25 years of service.
After retirement from Xerox Jack joined Semonin Co. as a realtor.

It was at Union College that Jack met and later married his wife of 44 years, Elaine. His love and respect for and devotion to her was matched only by her love for and devotion to him.

Jack's innate ability to make others feel comfortable, supported and appreciated was one of his endearing qualities. Jack exercised a unique ability to use humor to put people at ease and on occasion to call them to task. Those who knew Jack appreciated his open, honest, genuine personality and enjoyed and respected his calm yet determined approach to any challenge he confronted. As people grew to truly know him their appreciation for the depth of his intelligence, his lust for learning, the diversity of his interests and his compassion for others also grew.

Jack's parents, Clifford and Virginia, and his sister, Mary Jane, predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, his brothers, Dan Wells (Terri) and Mike Colley (Connie), his sister, Marsha Carter and his faithful companion, Tatu.

Celebration of Life will be 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 PM until time of service.

His family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Norton Cancer Institute and the Norton Brownsboro Hospital for their professional and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Ky. Humane Society Main Campus, Kosair Children's Hospital, Hosparus-Hospice of Louisville or a charity of your choice.

May he be in peace
in heaven with God.

Jack and Cal Combs came to Xerox in 1978 when I was the Branch Marketing
Manager. I vividly remember interviewing Jack and helping he and Cal with
their preparation to go to the Sales School at Leesburg.

Another memory of Jack was a time when we were on a recruiting trip to
Indiana University in Bloomington in the early 1980's. Jack went into a
McDonalds to get us coffee while I double parked my car. While in the
restaurant a lady was choking to death and he performed the Heimlich
maneuver and saved her life. When EMS arrived they told us if it had not
been for Jack's quick thinking the lady would have died.

My thoughts and prayers are with Jack's wife Elaine and his family.

May God bless you and your family always.

Ron
